2015 - 2016

Lyre donation

Date: March 20th, 2015. We donated a Lyre for the Pedagogic Unit Band of the Colegio República de Mexico (Republic of Mexico High School) in San Jose.

Support to RIISH & TOOSH craft paintings

Date: March, 2015. Sixt sponsored the craft paintings project Riish & Toosh "Let’s Paint it", so children from different ages learned more about nature and painting techniques, in San Jose. 

Community Bingo prize donation

Date: January, 2015. Sixt rent a car donated two baskets with food products for the Bingo organized by the Barrio Mexico Primary School at San Jose in order to collect funds for their social school projects. 

School books donation

Date: May, 2015. Sixt donated school books to different schools around the country with the collaboration of Pearson Publishing and other companies. Among the schools were:  the Sarklí Indigenous School in Talamanca, La Lidia School in San Gerardo de Dota, Laguna de Tortuguero School and Tortuguero School in Tortuguero, Limon and at Ninfa Cabezas School in Ticufres de Mora, San Jose.

Supplies donation for the Sarapiqui community

Date: June, 2015. As a result of recent floods in the Sarapiquí, Limon area; food, clothing and other items were collected to help the affected families.

San Jose city cleaning activity

Date: June, 2015. Last June we participated in the street cleaning and electronic collection campaign in the capital neighborhood of Morazán Park, San José.

Road safety educational workshops

Date: August, 2015. As part of the COSEVI's Safety Company Program, which Sixt rent a car is part of, several educational workshops were held for the children of the San Francisco de Asís Primary School in San Francisco, Heredia.

Bingo donation prize

Date: September 20th, 2015. Sixt rent a car donated several food baskets to collaborate with the Bingo prizes in  benefit of the students from Rincon del Cacao Primary School in Alajuela.

Emission offset - Tree planting

Date: September 22nd, 2015. Sixt rent a car together with ECOTERRA and the Eternal ‘s Children Forest, organized the planting of 300 trees in La Tigra of San Carlos. We had the participation of several Schools such as Valle Azul, Pueblo Nuevo, El Progreso, Los Criques, Hotel Casa Luna and Costa Rican Trails, to offset our Carbon Dioxide emissions.

II Waste Electronics Collection Campaing

Date: October, 2015. For second year, we organized the waste electronic collection Campaign which was carried out at the Oficentro Plaza Aeropuerto with the participation of all the companies from the complex and the recycling company Valu Shred.

Sponsorship of the Christmas party for the Sarkli Indigenous School

Date: December 03th, 2015. Several companies joined forces to carry out the Children's Christmas Party of the Sarkli Indigenous School located in Talamanca, where children enjoyed lunch, games and received several gifts.

COSEVI's Business Group Safety Program

Date: December 10th, 2015. Sixt rent a car participated in the COSEVI’s Business Group Safety Program, and after having complied with multiple actions and training, we obtained the respective certification.

Brittany's family food donation

Date: December 26th, 2015. Last December, 2015, Sixt’s staff gathered food and diapers to help Brittany’s family. She is a kid who suffered from cancer and whose family has very scarce resources. On December 26th, the food collected was delivered to her family who were really thankful for the donations.

Bingo Prize Donation to Santa Cecilia Church

Date: January 31st, 2016. Sixt rent a car donated 2 days of car rental to Santa Cecilia Catholic Church as part of the prizes to be raffled during an activity to collect funds for poor people and to develop social programs in the community. This church is located in Lagos del Coyol, Alajuela. 

Cleaning Activity at Tapanti National Park

Date: February 09th, 2016. Tapantí National Park is located 22 miles Southeast of San José in the Talamancan Mountain range with 12,500 acres (5,058 hectares) of unspoiled cloud forest. It provides habitat to 45 species of mammals, over 400 species of birds that live within the park, 28 species of reptiles and amphibians, abundant insects and also the tree and plant population is well represented. In collaboration with the governmental National Park System we participated cleaning the main trails and also assisting with the park fences maintenance. 

Olive Branch Foundation Charity Dinner

Date: May 13th, 2016. The Olive Branch Foundation is a non-profit organization that serves to empower children, by building schools, educating and feeding children in poverty in Kenya, Africa. The Foundation organized a charity dinner in Costa Rica to collect funds to develop their social programs and help children in need. Donation of plastic recycling containers

Date: May, 2016. Sixt rent a car donated several plastic recycling containers to Los Lagos Primary School in Liberia, Guanacaste to help students separate their waste.  These containers will be used as part of the environmental activities that the school is undertaking to recycle waste.  The recycling containers were delivered by our representatives from the Sixt rent a car Liberia office. 

Volunteer work at Los Lagos Primary School

Date: June 2nd, 2016. Continuing with our commitment to improve and support local schools, our staff from the Liberia Office in Guanacaste, helped Los Lagos Primary School by painting the ceilings and collaborating with some other maintenance works. 

Donation of recycling containers made with used tires

Date: June 3rd, 2016. Some of our staff members in Alajuela collaborated to make recycling containers with used tires. The recycling containers were donated to Los Lagos Primary School in Liberia, Guanacaste, so they can place them outdoors to help children separate their waste. 

Cleaning Activity at INBIO Park

Date: July 13th, 2016. In collaboration with some other private companies, Sixt rent a car participated in a cleaning activity at the INBIO. This is the National Biodiversity Institute of Costa Rica established since 1989 to gather knowledge on the country’s biological diversity and promote sustainable use; now it is a government biodiversity management center. The Environmental Ministry organized the cleaning activity and coordinated some maintenance works at the park as well. 

Environmental workshop and cleaning activity at Pabellon Primary School

Date:  August 17th, 2016. Sixt rent a car organized, together with Costa Rican Trails, an environmental workshop to teach children about the importance of recycling. The activity also included a workshop about traffic safety and ways to prevent accidents.  During the afternoon, we collaborated cleaning the forest area that belongs to the school, by cleaning the trails and collecting all dead plants around.

III Electronic waste collection campaign

Date: September 1 & 2, 2016. During September 1st and 2nd, we organized a campaign in order to collect used electrical and electronic appliances at the Oficentro Plaza Aeropuerto, where Sixt rent a car’s main office is located in Alajuela.  We received a total of 1472 Kgrs collected in Alajuela and Los Yoses, all those materials were delivered to Valu Shred, a company in charge of electronic recycling. 

3000 Trees planted in La Fortuna, San Carlos

Date: September 7th, 2016. Sixt rent a car together with several private and governmental companies participated planting 3000 trees in La Fortuna, San Carlos, Alajuela. The purpose is to create a biological corridor between the Burio and La Fortuna rivers and also to attract wildlife and offset our CO2 emissions.  Over 200 volunteers participated in the activity, planting native species of trees at the Colegio Técnico La Fortuna.  

Kids Athletics Workshop at Inglaterra Primary School

Date: September 27th, 2016. Last September 27th, Sixt rent a car together with Costa Rican Trails Tour Operator and the local Sport Committee of Montes de Oca, organized a series of athletic activities at the Inglaterra Primary School in San Rafael de Montes de Oca, San José.  Kids Athletics is a sports program for children in schools to attract a and sustain the potential sporting stars of tomorrow. The aim is to introduce children to athletics at a basic level with jumping, running, sprinting and throwing activities. 72 children participated in these sporting events, at the end of the activities they received a participation certificate for their effort. 

Environmental Workshop at Los Lagos Primary School

Date: October 10th, 2016. Last October 10th, we traveled to Guanacaste to work with the children of Los Lagos Primary School, we organized activities to teach them to recycle and protect the environment. We also did a workshop about road safety.

Bingo Prize Donation for GiaMala Foundation

Date:  October 11th, 2016. Sixt rent a car donated one vehicle rent for the GiaMala Foundation Bingo to raise funds for the families of patients in treatment who are in terminal phase. 

Sponsorship for The Young Leaders Initiative

Date: November, 2016. Sixt rent a car provided sponsorship to the Riish & Toosh representative for his participation in the President Obama’s Young Leaders Initiative Program, held in The United States.

Customer Service Workshop at Freddo Fresas

Date: November 01st, 2016. Sixt rent a car in coordination with two more companies, held a customer service workshop for the staff of Freddo Fresas in the restaurant, tours and accommodation areas as part of the support we provide to  micro-enterprises in our  community.

Golf Tournament Rayuela de Nano

Date: November 19th, 2016. Sixt rent a car sponsored the Rayuela de Nano Golf Tournament to collect funds for the immunology and rheumatology area of ​​The Children's National Hospital.

Christmas party for Hogar Casa Luz

Date: December 05th, 2016. The company sponsored and organized in coordination with other companies, the Christmas party for the young mothers and their children of Hogar Casa Luz, home for young mothers and pregnant adolescent in social risk. 

Corporate social responsibility Award 2015 & 2016

Date: December 2015 and December 2016. Sixt rent a car Costa Rica received for the second consecutive year the Award for Corporate Social Responsibility, among the more than 100 Sixt localities around the world, for its social and environmental efforts during the years 2015 and 2016.

2013 - 2014

School books donation

In August 2013, Sixt Rent a Car donated schoolbooks for the library project in 5 communities of Guanacaste, through World Vision Costa Rica, and with the support of Pearson publishing Company.

Mangrove planting in the Osa Peninsula

FL Concept Company, which is a French producer enterprise, Sixt rent a car and The Neotropica Foundation, filmed a documentary called "The land we share" in the Osa Peninsula. During the filming, we planted mangrove to reforest the coastal zone. The event was held from March 14th to 16th, 2013 and again in 2014, we will be participating to follow up on the mangrove planting.

Volunteering and environmental education, Yorkín community, Talamanca.

The activity was held last July 2nd, 2013 in the region of Yorkín, Talamanca, with the participation of Sixt Rent a Car, ACTUAR, Costa Rican Trails and a group of students from the United States who made a donation of school materials to the children of the town. During the activity we had the opportunity to give a seminar about sustainability to the Yorkín community.

Tree Planting in Turrialba

On 22 July, 2013,  Sixt rent a car planted 440 trees to mitigate our CO2 emissions in Turrialba. Sixt Rent a Car, Costa Rican Trails and Explornatura participated in the tree planting.

Waste cleaning campaign in Curridabat

The waste cleaning campaign was developed in Curridabat last August 2013, in coordination with Terra Nostra Association, Sixt Rent a Car and Costa Rican Trails. The activity was to gather garbage and all kinds of debris from vacant lots, sewers and sidewalks of that community.

Environmental education Program - CR Adventures

Sixt rent a Car in coordination with the Costa Rica Tourism Board (ICT) began an environmental education program at the Enrique Riba Morella Primary School. The school is located in Las Pilas, San Isidro de Alajuela, where an approximate of 35 children received environmental education last December 2013. In 2014, we will continue with the program to provide environmental education to all school children. We are also collaborating with the transportation of recyclable waste for their Blue Flag Environmental program.

Support to the “Make a Wish” Committee of ALCCI

Sixt rent a car together with the Fight against Childhood Cancer Association, participated last December 2013 in a project to fulfill a desire for Brittany, a 7-year-old girl who suffers from cancer. We were able to make her dream come true: Visit the Parque Nacional de Diversiones National Amusement Park.

Sixt Rent a Car staff training

Sixt Rent a Car, in its vision to provide services of the highest quality to its clients, has been training its staff in topics related to customer service, marketing and also about environmental issues, such as saving water and energy, managing waste, first aid, global warming and other important topics. 

Donation to ASOES

On December 22nd, 2013 Sixt rent a car donated 450 fruit juice boxes for the Christmas party organized by the Foundation Obras del Espíritu Santo (Holy Spirit Charity) through its founder, Father Sergio Valverde Espinoza. More than 3000 children, who belong to limited-resource families, participated in the activity and they received gifts and meals throughout the event.

Donation to Hogar Infantil San José Calasanz

Last March 12th, 2014 Sixt rent a car donated 19 tables and 72 chairs to support the Children Center San José Calasanz, located in San Rafael de Montes de Oca. They opened the center on April 01st, 2014 to receive a total of 100 children of limited resources from ages 1 to 6 years old.

Customer Service seminar in the Osa Peninsula

From March 23rd to 24th, 2014 Sixt Rent a Car participated for the second time in a visit to the Peninsula de Osa, together with the Neotropica Foundation, Costa Rican Trails and Mapache rent a car. This time, we organized a seminar about Customer service for the small entrepreneurs of the area and visited their local projects.

The National Park Foundation works closely with the National Protected Area System and they raise national and international funds in order to provide economic resources for the management, development and preservation of protected wild areas in Costa Rica. 

CEPIA

CEPIA stands for Culture, Education and Psychology for Infants and Adolescents. It is a Costa Rican non-profit organization that seeks to promote culture, health, sports and education for children and teenagers and their families from poor backgrounds in the communities of Guanacaste, Costa Rica, since 2005. http://www.cepiacostarica.org/en/

HOGAR CASA LUZ

Casa Luz (“House of Light), located in La Guácima, Alajuela is a haven for adolescent mothers who come from extreme poverty and have been abused and/or exploited. Their purpose is to help these young mothers realize that they can have healthy lives, positive social interactions, and a nurturing relationship with their children. Their mission is to help them actualize this possibility by teaching the life skills needed to achieve a productive and independent future. http://www.casaluz.org
